About Me!

About Me!

I started running in April of 2012 while I was in grad school getting my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford University.  (I intended on becoming a biology teacher but after student teaching decided it wasn't for me.)  After graduating in 2013, my husband and I moved to central Maryland to be closer to family and for his dream job.  Shortly thereafter I started volunteering at the National Aquarium in Baltimore in a few of the exhibits and their animal rescue program.  I also enjoy volunteering for races since it's a great way to get to see a different view of the race that a lot of runners don't get to see.

I ran my first 5k in 2012 and from then on I've been hooked.  My first half marathon was the Baltimore half marathon in October 2013 and it opened my eyes to using running as a way to get to know my new home and as a way of getting to know new and old areas.  My eventual goal is to run in all 50 states, and so far I've run in 8 (Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina, Missouri, Colorado and Hawaii.)

My other passion is thrift shopping!  I absolutely LOVE a good deal.  Being right between DC and Baltimore I can find some amazing deals. This also goes along with my thoughts that running doesn't have to be an expensive hobby.  You can find fantastic running gear while out thrift shopping from great name brands!

I want to offer my readers deals and recommendations on how to keep running budget friendly because it can get expensive FAST especially when you get into racing.  Then once the distances get longer, the cost just gets even higher as you need more specific gear, fuels and hydration supplements.  I also want to help you figure out if a race is really worth it.  I really enjoy running small, obscure races just as much as the larger ones.  I love reading and writing race recaps and taking a few pictures here and there during races.  It's all part of the excitement of racing and I love sharing that with the world!
